Vocational Training And College Preparation
This High School vocational program, part of the Regional Career Technical Center, prepares students for employment as a microcomputer service technician or network security assistant. Serving Lincoln Consolidated, Willow Run, Whitmore Lake, and Ypsilanti Public Schools. Students are heavily involved in hands-on projects which include replacing parts, upgrading software, removing viruses and troubleshooting of general hardware and software problems. All students have the opportunity to build computers & networks from new and used parts. Projects include an introduction to all operating systems: hardware installation, configuration, and troubleshooting. Advanced projects include Information Assurance. The new Information Assurance program parallels Network+. Flexibility, customer relations, problem-solving, and inter-personal communication skills are emphasized. With instructor's permission, students may elect this class for a second year.
This two-year course provides the opportunity to prepare students to pass the Computer Technology Industry Association's (CompTIA) A+ Certification, Network+ and Security+. All students have the opportunity to compete among peers in Local, Regional and State SkillsUSA competitions. By passing all three exams, students meet eligibility requirements for many government IT jobs. Students may earn 3-12 college credits with Eastern Michigan University, Washtenaw Community College or Baker College on an articulation basis while in High School. High School Math credits will be available while taking this course.
